I can still recall the first time I walked in to a casino. I had just turned eighteen years of age. I was very excited to turn eighteen because I was then legally allowed to do many more things. I am allowed to drive more freely, I am able to purchase alcohol, I am allowed to vote, and I am allowed to enter casinos! The night we were to visit the casino (which was my very first time), I remember trying to prepare myself – trying to dress up in clothing that would make me look just a little bit more mature, and making sure that I had my passport with me as proof that I was entitled to be at the casino. I was accompanied to the casino by my then boyfriend (now husband), my father, my aunt, and my uncle. My aunt had given my boyfriend and I twenty dollars to get started in the casino. We had’t had much experience with casinos, so we started off with the pokie machines. We went to the counter and changed our twenty dollar note in to coins, and off we went to try our luck with the pokie machines. At first, we really did not understand how they worked. All we knew was that we just needed to place a coin in the slot and wait for loud sounds and music which means that we have won. We began by briefly reading the possible wins on the pokie machines. After reading for some time, we still counted on the loud sounds and music to tell us if we had won or not. I do not know why, but it was very entertaining and exciting playing on the pokie machines. We felt like we had lots of opportunities to come home with a large amount of money. At the end of the evening, we ended up taking home eighty dollars which was not very much, but we were happy anyway. Any winning is way better than a loss. One day we hope to try the online casinos and maybe the Online Baccarat as well.
